Areti Chourdaki is a Cypriot creator and performer based in Brussels. In 2020, she graduated from CNDC in France, and in 2021, she created E|C|H|G|O, a three-hour choreographic situation presented at the 18th Summer Dance Festival by Nea Kinisi. That same year, Areti joined the master’s program Danse et Pratiques Chorégraphiques – Dance and Choreographic Practices – at Charleroi Danse, L’INSAS, and La Cambre in Brussels, where she explored The body as an archive of the systematic and created Plooperground in collaboration with Felix D’Aoust, as well as À l’uni quoi.
In 2023 She began a research project named Le chemin se fait en marchant – The path is made by walking – with which she joined the G.incubator 23-24 at Garage29, supported by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles – Dance Department and Charleroi Danse (research grant).
Throughout her educational and professional journey, she has collaborated with Daniel Linehan, Ayelen Parolin, Serge Aimé Coulibaly, Antia Diaz, Louise Vanneste, Loïc Touzé, Latifa Laâbissi, Florencia Demestri & Samuel Lefeuvre, Angela Rabaglio & Micaël Florentz (Cie Tumbleweed), Olga de Soto, Mark Tompkins, Alban Richard, Ambra Senatore, Olivia Grandville, Marzena Krzeminska, Dimitri Chamblas, Oriane Varak, Viky Kalla and Panayiotis Tofi.
As a creator, she focuses on the various limits of the human body, particularly endurance. She experiments with and explores the possibilities of knitting as a creative mode that emerges through repetition. Her handmade creations are used in her choreographic proposals, both as costumes and scenographic tools.
As a performer, she activates the sculptures and works of Yvan Clédat and Coco Petitpierre – Funny Game. Additionally, she moves to the steps of ‘A Dance for the End of the World’ by Diamanto Hatzizaharia.
